Thesis Theme Framework … It’s Essential You Know This …
If you check out the official DIYthemes site, you’ll see they refer to their WordPress product as the Thesis Theme Framework.
What’s a Framework?
In the premium theme market, you either have those stylised templates or themes that are one-purpose and ready-to-go … or the framework themes which are all-purpose and ready-to-customise according to your desires, and ability (!) …
Meaning?
If you had a cycling blog, you might want to buy a cycling WordPress theme, if it exists, so that your design was more immediately congruent with your content and goals. It might have pictures, colours and functionality suited to the cycling niche.
See, a typical theme is pre-styled … created from the ground up to look a certain way, with specific colour choices, and typography.
If you also ran a health food blog, you wouldn’t want your cycling WordPress theme on it. It wouldn’t match. So you might buy a health food theme as well, in addition to your cycling theme.
On the other hand …
Frameworks are foundations to build upon, or if you prefer not to … they’re clean and simple out-the-box … and thus will not distract your visitors from reading your content and taking up your offers ;-)
I maintain that unless you’re skilled in design, it’s better to KISS.
Frameworks Ain’t One-Trick Ponies, See?
A good framework, like Thesis, is awesome for building ANY type of site on, whether it’s for cycling news, health food advice, or any other imaginable interest.
But there’s more …
Another consideration is this: the Thesis Theme Framework has been in continuous development for YEARS. The coding underneath bears the fruit of this. The same is not so easily said for that health food theme you have your eye on.
Frameworks are typically more matured over the styled-themes you can buy today.
But what if you want a certain theme on your framework?
Skins Give You The Best of Both Worlds
What if a really skilled developer takes the Thesis framework, and styles it into an awesome business blog, or auto-motive site, or {insert niche here} … and GIVES (or sells) that end-result to YOU? That’d be pretty sweet, right?
SKINS are effectively just that.
So you get the benefit of the solid-foundation and all-purpose framework WITH the specific design you need. Happy days indeed :-)
Make sure to check out my add-on / bonus when you’re ready to buy the Thesis Theme Framework … it’ll cost you nothing that way ;-)
